Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Nursing Risk and Quality Division for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to be a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Coordinator and work alongside the Head of Patient & Public Involvement & Engagement Lead (PPI/E)The ideal candidate will have professional experience of patient and public involvement and engagement and of communicating with members of the public from a wide range of backgrounds and variety of characteristics. A working knowledge of the benefits, issues and initiatives related to PPI/E is essential. The post holder will always work with a high degree of discretion and initiative, respecting confidentiality of information.The post holder will frequently be the first point of contact for key stakeholders (including our public contributors), exhibiting excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and developing excellent working relations, dealing with complex and sensitive information.

This position is part-time (18.5 hours/week), based in Chelsea with some travel to Sutton. RM has a flexible working policy, so the post holder will be guaranteed a desk and will be provided with laptop for flexible working between sites/from home. The hours can be spread across three days or the entire week, as agreed with the line manager.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a dedicated, professional, efficient, and effective support for patient and public involvement and engagement activities in clinical services to the Head of Patient & Public Involvement & Engagement Lead (PPI/E). The ideal candidate will have some professional experience of patient and public involvement and engagement and of communicating with members of the public from a wide range of backgrounds and variety of characteristics. A working knowledge of the benefits, issues and initiatives related to PPI/E is essential. The post holder will always work with a high degree of discretion and initiative, respecting confidentiality of information. The post holder will frequently be the first point of contact for key stakeholders (including our public contributors), exhibiting excellent communication skills and developing excellent working relations, dealing with complex and sensitive information. They will coordinate meetings, patient and public involvement and engagement activities. The role will include conducting audits, PPI analysis and report writing, and regular supervision of patient and public stakeholders and their activities - including PPIE Agreements and payment of reward and expenses.

Monitor the PPIE generic email accounts, responding to queries or direct to the Patient and Carer Advisory Group (PCAG), other patient groups or panels or the Head of Patient Involvement and Engagement. These may be requests from patient and public contributors and professionals, i.e., Trust information, meetings, etc.; including challenging and demanding requests which require negotiating skills to resolve Provide and receive complex information where persuasive or reassuring skills may be required and deal with sensitive issues where there are barriers to understanding. Administer and coordinate PPIE activities, including organizing and administering PPIE workgroups/focus groups on behalf of clinical, nursing, or other professional staff and managing requests from professionals for PPIE support. This may include advertising, administering registrations, invites and evaluations, record outcomes and provide reports. Type and circulate papers, minutes, timetables, memoranda, etc. for meetings, and support/prepare PowerPoint presentations and other materials.

  • Experience in administration in services and/ or community / voluntary sector
  • Experience of using and managing spreadsheets and databases
  • Experience of coordinating workshops, focus groups and events
  • A working knowledge of the benefits, issues and initiatives related to Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPI/E)
Desirable
  • Experience of working within a health environment
