Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with some experience in involvement and engagement to help ensure that patients, carers and the wider public are at the forefront of UCLPartners work.

Main duties of the job

Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) is an essential part of the work we do at UCLPartners.

Reporting to the Head of PPIE, you will use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help our staff build their knowledge, skills and confidence with patient involvement, including providing some hands-on support for those newer to this way of working. You will work with the Head of PPIE and our Patient, Carer and Public Advisory Panel to develop our involvement practices.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of theUCLPartners Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy, working collaboratively with colleagues and patient and public partners.
  • Work with the Head of PPIE to develop new ways of involving patients, carers and the public from a wide variety of backgrounds in what we do, ensuring we work with communities that reflect the diversity of our region in line with UCLPartners commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Help to embed a culture of involvement across UCLPartners by providing PPIE advice and support to UCLPartners staff and projects, including providing additional facilitation or activity support for those newer to PPIE.
  • Support the delivery of the UCLPartners Patient, Carer and Public Advisory Panel, including organising panel meetings, facilitating sessions, and providing guidance and training to current members.
  • Support the development of the Lived Experience Network including monitoring and reporting of community demographic insights.
  • Advise on reward and recognition for public contributors in line with UCLPartners Contributor Payment Policy, supporting patients, carers and members of the public through making claims, and liaising on claim processing with the Finance team.
  • Develop content including patient-facing newsletters.
  • Support safe and secure data management and up-to-date record keeping within PPIE activities (e.g. around payment information).
  • Represent UCLPartners values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in our approach to patient and public involvement and engagement.
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by the line manager.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Educated to a degree-level or equivalent experience within patient involvement or community engagement.
  • Experience of involving and working with a wide variety of public stakeholders such as patients, carers and community groups.
  • Experience of advising and supporting the development of involvement activities and projects.
  • Experience of delivering involvement and engagement activities such as workshops, focus groups, and hands-on activities.
  • Experience of developing written content for external communications such as newsletters.
  • Ability to work flexibly in the planning and organisation of multiple strands of work, at different stages of delivery, without direct supervision.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment, respond swiftly, operate amid ambiguity and to successfully handle sensitive situations efficiently and confidentially.
  • Experience of making judgements involving facts or situations, including an understanding of when to use initiative and when to escalate.
  • A strong commitment to equity, and diverse and inclusive teams and principles.
  • Experience of working with researchers, professionals, and innovators in the health and care sector is desirable.
