Apprentice Teaching Technician (Clinical Skills & Simulation)
Role
1. Provide technical support for skills and simulation-based activities, and provide advice, troubleshoot, maintain and provide basic repair to the fleet of patient simulators, and provide maintenance of clinical and audiovisual equipment as necessary
2. To set-up, deliver, and pack down clinical skills teaching sessions or simulation programmes, including opening rooms, general tidiness and switching on/off audiovisual equipment, simulation equipment (including patient simulators), medical gases, anaesthetic machines, ventilators, lights and other relevant simulated medical equipment
3. Be involved in the day-to-day management of the clinical skills and simulation facilities. This may include consulting with users of the spaces, dealing with local feedback, dealing with health and safety considerations of the environment and teaching activities, and providing advice and guidance on the use of equipment, monitoring and maintaining stock levels and cleanliness for service delivery at all times
4. To sometimes act within scenarios as patients, family members or staff members – donning clothing, clinical props and prosthetics as required
5. Maintain the security of the clinical skills and simulation facilities
6. Cleaning, storage and security of all clinical skills and simulation equipment
7. Data input and/or extraction from databases, reporting, and producing correspondence
8. Assist in the orientation of new academic and academic-related staff – including external programme educators – and promote team working in the context of simulation delivery
9. Provide technical support to academic and academic-related staff and other resource developers in production, editing, subtitling, and publishing still and video content
10. Responsible for the development and implementation of local technical and operational policies and systems to enable smooth-running of the facilities
11. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive and recorded information as per Data Protection legislation and University Policies
12. Responsible for monitoring, ordering, and maintaining clinical consumables, and simulation equipment
13. Work flexibly to ensure cover in times of larger events, increased activity or to cover annual leave or sickness
14. Acquire and maintain knowledge of Medical Terminology and equipment used in clinical practice: regardless of prior background in either healthcare or otherwise, there will be a requirement to obtain relevant medical knowledge and jargon to authentically participate and assist in scenarios
Training
The Education Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard will be delivered via a variety of methods with our training provider partner Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust
Training schedule has yet to be agreed, details will be made available at a later date
