Role: Desktop Engineer

Job Type: Contract

Day Rate: £250-£270/day [Inside IR35]

Duration: 6 Months + Possible extension

Key Responsibilities:

Desktop Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, deploy, diagnose, update and manage desktop environments with a focus on Windows 10/11 systems.
  • Ensure desktop environments are secure, scalable, and optimized for performance.

Windows Active Directory (AD):

  • Administer and maintain Active Directory environments, including user and group management, GPO creation, and troubleshooting.
  • Design, diagnose and implement AD security best practices, including managing authentication protocols and ensuring compliance with security policies.

Windows Hello for Business:

  • Design and implement Windows Hello for Business, including the configuration of biometrics, PINs, and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Troubleshoot issues related to Windows Hello for Business and ensure seamless user authentication processes.

Secure Network Connectivity:

  • Deploy, configure, and manage Cisco AnyConnect VPN solutions to ensure secure remote access for end-users.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Wired, Wireless and VPN connectivity issues, ensuring high availability and performance for remote workforces.
  • Familiar with 802.1x network access control

TPM Certificates:

  • Manage the deployment and renewal of TPM (Trusted Platform Module)  certificates managed by Windows Hello for Business across the desktop environment.
  • Ensure proper integration of TPM certificates with other security protocols and applications.

Security & Compliance:

  • Ensure all desktop systems comply with corporate security policies and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with the security team to implement and monitor endpoint protection measures.

Technical Support:

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for desktop-related issues, escalating to other teams as necessary.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Generate reports on desktop performance, security compliance, and incident response activities.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in desktop engineering, with a focus on enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience with Windows Active Directory, including advanced GPO management.
  •  Strong expertise in Windows Hello for Business, Cisco AnyConnect, and TPM certificate management.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in Windows 10/11 administration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VPNs and network security.
  • Experience with endpoint management tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell) for automation and process improvement.

Certifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or similar are a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
