Band 4 Pathology Informatics Technologist / IT support Technician

Job summary

This is a band 4 Cellular Pathology role with a focus on Laboratory IT & R&D. You will work cross sites with a base at Heartlands and QE. You will be experienced in a laboratory environment and have competencies / skills in IT or R&D. You must demonstrate attention to detail in your application as the role requires updating patient/sample records, cancer tracking data and generating lists for audit or studies to specific criteria. You will be IT literate and familiar with Trust/patient or laboratory information management systems. In addition, you will be familiar with standard Microsoft software such as Word and Excel, and also with extracting, analysing and summarising data in Excel or similar experience. You will work closely with the IT Lead and Cell Path Operational Managers in updating and delivering laboratory data and information systems. You will train colleagues in Laboratory information systems. You will be trained in specific systems such as Telepath, Qpulse and supplier specific software from Roche/Agilent/Sectra and others in order to cascade training to new colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to have or develop skills in these core tasks:

* Searches and extracts of lab data for audits, R&D, Pathology and mandatory cancer requirements.

* Support with data and audit trail data relating to incidents and enquiries.

* Train staff in Lab IT systems.

* Support colleagues with improved traceability and with IT developments such as digital Pathology new Lat IT systems.

* Support with updating procedures and other information on Qpulse and other laboratory quality systems.

* Coordinate and monitor Pathology Archive and records.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • 3 A levels or equivalent e.g. BTEC, NVQ level 3 (QCF level 3). One of which should be IT or Maths related.
  • HNC, NVQ Level 4/5, foundation degree, or equivalent experience qualification
  • Continuing professional development

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience within a relevant laboratory environment.
  • Experience of supporting PC software applications and peripherals.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office or equivalent, navigating databases and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of software, hardware, databases and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of audit and research principles.
