Job summary

The Nuclear Medicine Service is a specialised diagnostic and treatment facility based on four sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital (HH), Good Hope Hospital (GH) and Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH)). The case mix is highly specialised, and this is reflected in the range of investigations and treatments that are provided.

The training lead role will oversea staff training, training days, students, apprentices and staff development for the Nuclear Medicine service. They will work closely with the management team to ensure all training needs for the team are met and that legislative requirements are complied with.

Main duties of the job

The Nuclear Medicine Training Lead and be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and services directly to patients.

The post holder will share responsibility with the other training lead to complete the following:

- Facilitating training within Nuclear Medicine

- Supervision of the training clinical staff ensuring provision of effective and efficient training systems

- Liaison with the management team to ensure clinical staff have the ability and resources to carry out training opportunities

- Acting as the clinical staff representative in strategic planning and departmental performance review

- Initiating and organising audits

- Working with physicists and radiologists to improve and develop the service

- Creating the roster to align with training needs of the service across all four sites

- Supervise apprentices, trainees and students and ensure training is up to date

  • BSc Hons Clinical Technology (nuclear

  • equivalent.
  • Developed highly, specialist knowledge
  • and experience across a range of work
  • procedures (MSc level) -- gained from

  • to have rotated and actively participated

  • Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent

  • Possess a developed specialist
  • theoretical and practical knowledge of
  • nuclear medicine imaging and nonimaging procedures and analysis. Able to
  • perform a full range of diagnostic test
  • procedures on patients of all ages
  • including paediatric.
  • Possess specialist theoretical and
  • practical knowledge of radiopharmacy
  • with the ability to dispense and administer
  • intravenous radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Able to devise, write and implement
  • investigational protocols and procedures.
  • Expected to carry out specialist
  • procedures with highly complex
  • equipment, adapting protocols where
  • necessary.
  • Knowledge of the safe use of expensive
  • and highly complex imaging, non-imaging
  • and related equipment (>50,000)

  • Has a high degree of theoretical and
  • practical knowledge of radiation protection
  • issues and radioactive decontamination.
  • Has a developed understanding of
  • patient, staff and public risks arising from
  • radiation exposure.
  • Has a high level of knowledge of radiation
  • protection and legislation relating to
  • nuclear medicine i.e, Ionising Radiations
  • Regulations, Ionising Radiations (Medical
  • Exposure) Regulations, Radioactive
  • Substances Act, Medicines Act
  • Radioactive Substances, Transport
  • Regulations and Administration of

  • Committee (ARSAC) guidelines.
  • Experience of working within a quality
