Job summary

Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC) is a core service of Velindre University NHS Trust, and one of the leading non-invasive oncology centres in the UK. The planning of change work programmes, considering what happens and in what order, monitoring progress and managing risk will be co-ordinated through a programme management approach through the Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC) Programme Management Office (PMO).

The role will involve working closely with the Senior Responsible Owners, operational, corporate and clinical colleagues for the assigned projects to define the objectives, scope and benefits through to delivery of multiple projects, support and advise on change processes and identify and mitigate any risks to those projects with the support of the Head of PMO and SI and, PMO Programme Manager.

Main duties of the job

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading, planning, co-ordinating and managing a portfolio of projects on a day-to-day basis, supporting the organisation in meeting key strategic business aims and goals.

They will hold responsibility for achieving defined targets and standards against the key performance and quality indicators through performance monitoring, project management, and the delivery of service and quality improvement programmes with the organisation.

The post holder will provide project management and leadership to clinical and operational projects, and will be required to analyse and interpret key business information in order to support the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in making key strategic decisions. This includes managing and co-ordinating the efforts of project team members and wider internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver all projects according to plan, using specialist project methodologies recommended for use in the public sector.

The post holder will be required to quickly establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders based on trust and confidence, work well within teams, and have the skills to engage, influence and negotiate with colleagues and senior managers in relation to business change, facilitating the project teams in the delivery of significant improvements in service productivity and efficiency.

  • Masters or equivalent professional/managerial qualification.
  • PRINCE 2 registered Practitioner or other recognised qualification in project management
