Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for eligible staff working within the ESEL Partnership to undertake the IBMS Registration Portfolio and apply for the IBMS Certificate of Competence.

Successful Band 4 candidates will be based at a named laboratory, Royal London Hospital, but work flexibly across different teams and partnered laboratories. Predominately focused on Point of care testing but attainment ofIBMS Certificate of Competence may require working in core and specialist laboratory sections.

To support the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients, participation in the Agenda for change shift pattern is required

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) is to provide patients with a high-quality, cost-effective service, and ensure the longer-term sustainability of NHS pathology services in east and south east London.

We are a new organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Set up as an arms-length organisation, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, we have our own board and governance, with each of the three trusts having an equal voice and vote in the running of the Pathology Partnership. One of the largest pathology providers in the NHS, the Pathology Partnership brings together the strengths of teams from each of the three trusts into a single organisation, dedicated to the provision of pathology.

About us

The NHS East andSouth EastLondon PathologyPartnership isan arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.

The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE. Job responsibilities

The laboratory at RLH is equipped with Cobas 8000 (Roche diagnostics) instruments which are connected to an integrated automated workflow solution, c8100 and p701 (Roche diagnostics).

The specialist clinical chemistry work areas are equipped with D-100 (Biorad Laboratories), Ultimate 3000 (Thermo Scientific), Acquity UPLC (Waters), AAnalyst 800 (Perkin Elmer), Indiko Plus (Thermo Scientific), Capillarys (Sebia), Hydrasys (Sebia) and SPA plus (Binding site).

The Point of care testing portfolio includes AQT90 (Radiometer), ABL90 Flex (Radiometer), ABL800 series (Radiometer), Clinitek Status (Siemens), i-Stat1 (Abbott), i-Stat Alinity (Abbott), Freestyle Precision Pro (Abbott), Accuchek Informa II (Roche diagnostics) and DCA Vantage (Siemens).
