Biomedical Scientist - Immunology

Job summary

Applications are invited for one post in the Immunology Laboratory and Protein Reference Unit. The Department includes the Supraregional Protein Reference Unit and offers a full range of immunological investigations. The department is a nationally recognised centre of excellence for specific proteins, autoimmunity and allergy testing.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated State Registered Biomedical Scientists to join a well-established team in this busy department, which has full UKAS Accreditation and is IBMS approved for training purposes. The department actively encourages further education, CPD activities and completion of Specialist Portfolios. Applicants must have an honours degree or equivalent in a biological science and HCPC registration. Proven experience of working in a diagnostic pathology department is essential with preference for candidates with Immunology experience. Skills to include; accuracy and attention to detail and good communication skills.

This post is based at St George's Hospital however the post holders may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary.

Qualifications and Training

Essential
  • An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable
  • Over a year's experience in an Immunology Pathology Laboratory

Knowledge and Experience

Essential
  • Proven experience of working in a diagnostic pathology department
  • Practical experience of a range of diagnostic pathology techniques
  • Proven practical experience using diagnostic pathology laboratory equipment
  • Experience of working with a laboratory computer system
  • Experience of quality management systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
  • Proven experience of working in an Immunology department
